Rajdeep Sardesai quits NDTV

Well-known journalist Rajdeep Sardesai has decided to quit NDTV. He is planning to start another news channel -- a "journalist driven" channel. "I had a dream of doing something on my own. I have got an opportunity and hence I am utilising it", says Rajdeep. Of late Rajdeep was looking a bit stressed out and tired. In fact R and I talked about this after watching his interview with Prakash Karat, the newly elected CPI(M) General Secretary, some time last week.

A year ago, Rajdeep had casually remarked that all journalists have failed in some areas in life, so end up as a journalist. I guess Rajdeep wasn't cent per cent jovial when he said that!

Update: Rajdeep Sardesai's new venture is named Broadcast News. Speculation is that Rajdeep will be able to attract talent from several existing news channels. I don't quite like the name though!

does this spell trouble in the ndtv ranks. Do we need yet another news channel?

I guess it's good to have more news channels. Somehow I do not like Headlines Today (except for Jhujhar Singh), so NDTV is pretty much the only channel for me right now. I was never a fan of Sardesai or Barkha Dutt though. My favourite NDTV news anchor is Nidhi Razdan.

I think Rajdeep needs to take a break. He is an emotional man who gets too caught up in the events. Though many might perceive this as a precursor of a news channel, I say "more the merrier".

btw I think Zakka Jacob, spells class in news reporting!!!

That's interesting, so there are people who like Zakka Jacob. I never liked this guy much. Specifically I think his interviewing skills are bad. He is always anxious to ask his next question and tries to interrupt the answer to his previous question. Not that one should be the Larry King extreme, literally devouring the answers, punctuated sparsely by a Why or How, leaning precariously, chin on knuckles!

Rajdeep was the person I liked the most in the NDTV team. I've not been watching Indian TV for the past two years (except for sometime this Jan), so no idea about Jujahar Singh or Zakka Jacob. Nidhi Razdan rings a bell but I don't think I liked her very much.

Off-topic, Rediff could have put a better picture of Sardesai!

Further off-topic, I miss that guy John Ulahannan, who was a familiar face in Malayalam news, before all this sattelite TV.

At 8:35 AM, Blogger Anand said...

I do remember Ulahannan. Btw, I think these days a few in the Malayalam news channels are pretty good. Don't get to watch most channels regularly, but I was impressed with Indiavision during my last Kerala trip.

Hey, thanks for dropping by.

And seriously, as for channels, the more the merrier. The power is eventually with the remote, and that's in MY hand.

Headlines today is staid! I quite like CNBC.

And on a lighter note, who's ever not liked Nidhi Razdan?

Good to know that I'm not the only admirer!

Incidentally, here's a farewell letter attributed to Rajdeep Sardesai that's doing the rounds on the net.

Yeah I heard they've got TV18 on their side.. could be good then again.

Now, what will Nidhi Razdan do? If she goes with Rajdeep, i hope she will not bark out the communist stuff like him all the time.

i just didn't like rajdeep. he just does not have a pleasant disposition required for a TV presenter, besides being dominating and interrupting while conducting interviews. Prefer someone like prannoy or nidhi.

Who is this Nidhi Razdan, does she even know anythin of politics, guys seem to be impressed by her physical assets than anything else, the whole debate on this site about how good nidhi is and how abt rajdeep is is in real bad taste.

At 4:27 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Arrogance scant respect to others were his assets. why only he ?it is in almost all tv so called jornalist.they have very limited or no knowledge of subject but pretend as if they know everything.
you have seen many started their channel. but went so low for creating news recently(Shakti Kapoor incident).Journalisim is or requires lot more things than these people have.hence it appears he will also end up like other ordinary journalist/tv news readers.Ask him to remember list of such people who have disappeared from the scene.

since rajdeeps venture in ndtv i had admired him as a journalist,an excellent orator.rajdeep was a queen bee in ndtvs hive.it is a big blow for ndtv.but still life moves on and others will try to abridge the rajdeep factor. As far as nidhi razdaan is concerned she is excellent in her presentations and discussions which tells highly about her proficiency in journalism.i am personally fascinated by her physical attributes and enjoy her news reading whenever she is on air

i was real sad to see R leave ndtv. no, nobody is indispensable. but "prannoy and his angels" did carve a nitche in tv jounalism. i switch on the other channels only to watch an accidental favourtie. but ndtv is anytime channel. wish R all luck, and wich ndtv will come out with more fresh talents. just saw a team of new girls. yes, pretty good.

what do you guys think of radhika bordia. I think she is fab. Her programme is one of NDTV's best and she's quite a natural beauty

At 10:12 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I have been a fan of hers for a long time but she only has one programme a week. That can't compensate for the loss of Rajdeep. But I agree, I am most impressed with her work. And Nidhi is undoubtedly charming

Wht abt natasha? She does a good presentation for you decide, the rest are all wrking hard at their looks.Wht do u think guys?

it is indeed a big shock dat Rajeev is quitting ndtv...i am one person who can actually WORSHIP HIM!!! i am practically in love with him...he is one impeccable orator and he has done some fabulous job in ndtv. and whosoever says dat Rajeev is no good....can go to hell!!!
God bless u Rajeev...i am 200% sure dat u'll do an amazing job in votevr project u take up...
in my opinion...u r not just a journalist...but a person whom God has sent... to tell us the true meaning of courage (journalism)...
the world needs people like u...Bless u...

I never knew that Rajdeep had so many admirers. But honestly Rajdeep is a phenomenon and to say that he is dominating and interrupting makes no sense because journalists are not supposed to be doormats. Best of luck to Rajdeep.

Rajdeep had a presence and a maturity that's undeniable. It's a loss for NDTV but I think temporarily. There are other still there Barkha Dutt, Sreenivasan Jain, Nidhi RAzdan, Vikram Chandra and some good shows.
Would appreciate it if someone got back on a profile of Radhika Bordia

At 1:38 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Someone up so late and remembering Radhika Bordia. I agree her programmes are most intersting. Just recently something on Iran which was an eye-opener. But I don't think she is an anchor. She could be with a little better grooming. Very pretty but could look neater. Looks are not everythiing but Nidhi Razdan's add to her presentation. Radhika Bordia could easily look stunnign if she tried.

At 8:18 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I heard that Radhika is Srinivasan Jain's wife. Her programs are really a treat to watch.
IMO, at best Nidhi Razdan is a mediocre journalist. She gets written about because of her Dad who is chief editor and MD of PTI.

For the last a few months I was really worried what happened to Rajdeep Sardesai.I feel very sad about that he left NDTV, becuase NDTV has become my favourite news channel after Praanoy and team left Star plus. For me Sardesai was the ultimate in TV news reporting. Iam not worried about how much he got and how much he will make in his new role. He is quite serious and a thorough professional in his work, wherever he is and whatever he does.Iam an ordinary news enthusiast living in Mumbai suburb. Iam afraid how long it will take to watch Rajdeep Sardesai again in news reporting and anchoring debates, because our cable wallah may not provide this CNBC TV-18 channel very soon. best of luck to him and his new venture. May be NDTVs big loss will be a boon to the vewers.Hope he will take journalism to futher hights. Also best of luck to Peranoy Roy who revolutionised the scene of TV journalism in India.

Nidhi Razdan might be in media because of her dad but her credentials as anintelligent journalist should not be questioned. she was the president of LSR Debating society in 1997. those who have debated in DU circuit would know that to be LSR's DEBSOC president would take real talent. then she went on to study in IIMC in radio and television journalism. she has come up from ranks and deserve to be where she is right now
her avid fan

At 2:58 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Talking of debating societies, did any of you know that Radhika Bordia was the first woman president of St Stephen's Debating Society and that is no easy thing to achieve. Was in a debate once where she took the pants of all the male members of the other colleges. But for some reason she has evades the camera too much. Would be good though.
But certainly Barkha cannot take Rajdeep's place in NDTV so there is a vacuum.

At 8:13 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Haven't seen enough of Zakka Jacob. Smriti is in NDTV now but honestly I feel we need more mature anchors. Some of these girls sound silly but look great. Nidhi looks and sounds good. She is more balanced than Barkha. I'd say Srinivasan Jain, Nidhi Razdan should do a show together.

At 11:53 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is the irony of Media. Noone's job in this field is certain. I met Rajdeep once in Delhi at his Videocon tower office. He is a good human geing first then a journalist. Barkha is an aggressive woman. She can not take his place.

At 10:06 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree Rajdeep can't be matched. Barkha just sounds stupid specially during the Bihar election show. But I like the idea of a Nidhi Razdan plus Srinivasan Jain show

At 10:12 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is it true that Radhika Bordia and Srinivasan Jain are married

At 2:48 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Nidhi Razdan is getting married to lyricist Neelesh Misra?

At 5:08 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes she is. The wedding is today and they have been seeing each other for years. He was apparently married before. All of NDTV will be in attendance. NDTV won the best channel and RAdhika Bordia the Sanskriti award for journalism. Well deserved.

come on haven't seen anything on this one in ages. Seems like war for news has everyone's attention but I want to know what a lot of you guys have to say about these channels

At 11:23 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

rajdeep sardesai rocks big time!he is my idol and no one can be as good as him.he is one of the best journalists we have today.
no matter what people say about him he is still the best and always will.

At 5:26 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hi everyone,
it is great to learn that Radhika Bordia is doing well at her country of origin. I knew her when she was a teenager in Brussels and I can honestly say that everyone predicted a great future for her. It is upsetting to see that people continue to dig out dirt on a celebrity's life, but Radhika is more than a mere "celeberity". She is a humanitarian and someone who gave up on a chance to study at Oxford to go back to her home land. Please give credit where credit is due.

These are interesting times for television and while war for news has garnered much attention, time we get this post going again.

At 1:03 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree. War for News is getting a little too obsessed with female anchors and their boobs.
Would prefer a more mature discussion. Rajdeep has really managed to prove himself. In less than one year CNN-IBN is giving a 15 year old organisation tough competition. Who would have thought that NDTV would collapse like this.

At 5:02 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

who is this anonymous guy who feel guys are falling for the beauty of nidhi rather than her skills as a presenter. typical mcp mentality. nidhi and all other female presenters can teach ignorant blokes like this fellow what gk is.
he is an idiot of the first order

Hi,
The best television jounalist in India is Barkha Dutt. And the best news presenter is Rajdeep ofcourse.Kerala has one of the largest number of regional news chnnels here.We have excellent news readers like Nikesh Kumar of India Vision, Shanni of Manorama, Venu of Asianet, Anuja of Kairali.

At 12:46 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sorry Die hards,
I have a different opinion about the malayalam/kerala television news readers.Nikesh Kumar is over the hill now and nothing nore to expect from him.Venu is very good but sometimes he questions like a policeman with impatience wriiten all over him.Shaany is the best television journo here.Anuja is all elegance and grace but unfortunately we havent seen her much on the screen except the promos of people tv.

Rajdeep Sardesai, in this modern world, his art of Management has become a part and parcel of everyday life, be it at home, in the office or factory and in Government. In all organizations, where a group of human beings assemble for a common purpose irrespective of caste, creed, and religion, management principles come into play through the management of resources, finance and planning, priorities, policies and practice. Management is a systematic way of carrying out activities in any field of human effort. Management need to focus more on leadership skills, e.g., establishing vision and goals, communicating the vision and goals, and guiding others to accomplish them. It also assert that leadership must be more facilitative, participative and empowering in how visions and goals are established and carried out. Some people assert that this really isn't a change in the management functions, rather it's re-emphasizing certain aspects of management.
Its task is to make people capable of joint performance, to make their weaknesses irrelevant, says the Management Guru Peter Drucker. It creates harmony in working together - equilibrium in thoughts and actions, goals and achievements, plans and performance, products and markets. It resolves situations of scarcity, be they in the physical, technical or human fields, through maximum utilization with the minimum available processes to achieve the goal. Lack of management causes disorder, confusion, wastage, delay, destruction and even depression. Managing men, money and materials in the best possible way, according to circumstances and environment, is the most important and essential factor for a successful management.

I AM A EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL AND AND I LIKE TO WATCH ENGLISH NEWS CHANNELS. OF LATE NDTV HAS BEEN A CHANNEL OF MY INTEREST. I ADMIRE THE WAY BARKHA DUTT CARRIES OUT 'WE, THE PEOPLE'. SHE SPEAKS SO FLUENT ENGLISH AND REPORTS ON BIG EVENTS IN A MANNER THAT NO ONE ELSE DOES. NIDHI RAZDAN IS ALSO VERY GOOD AT CONDUCTING INTERVIEWS. BUT MY FAVOURITE OF ALL IS ZAKKA JACOB, NOT SO MUCH FOR HIS SKILLS AS FOR HIS DASHING LOOKS. HE IS THE ONLY PERSON ON WHOM I HAVE HAD A CRUSH FOR THE LONGEST PERIOD OF TIME.I HAVE BEEN FOND OF HIM SINCE I WAS 13.I SOMETIMES WONDERED WHETHER HE WAS MARRIED OR NOT. I KNOW HE IS A SOUTH INDIAN AND SO AM I, AND THAT MAKES THE BOND EVEN STRONGER. I WISH I GOT AN OPPORTUNITY TO TELL HIM HOW MUCH I ADORE HIM! CAN ANYONE ASK HIM TO CREATE A BLOG OF HIS OWN. I JUST WANT TO TALK TO HIM.
