Open Secrets

Former Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Maloy Krishna Dhar's book -- Open Secrets-India's Intelligence Unveiled -- has claimed that the Babri Masjid demolition was planned ten months in advance by top leaders of the Sangh Parivar. The book also has many other revelations. Now Outlook magazine has a CD of a speech of AB Vajpayee, in which, just a day before the demolition, he asks the karsevaks to level the land. News reports say that Krishna Dhar has mentioned about this CD in his book.

So was Vajpayee part of this conspiracy? I would think yes. Not because of these new evidences though. He has always been a central figure in the Sangh, and an event of that order would not have taken place without his knowledge. In any case, now that there's some sort of a proof of his involvement, the Liberhan commission should look into it.

Here's a previous post of mine on Babri Masjid.

Update: Here's Venkitesh Ramakrishnan's review of Maloy Krishna Dhar's book in the Frontline.

Anand, still more reason I believe Vajpayee was the worst PM we have ever had, heading the worst government we have ever had.

Thank you for your thoughts on the demolition. Yes: a truly secular government would indeed right that wrong. Unfortunately, I don't know that we will ever have a truly secular government or that it would find the will necessary.

Can't agree more. Incidentally, that's why I admire politicians like Lalu Prasad Yadav despite their practicing personality based politics. I guess a few like him have succeeded in righting some of the the wrongs, perhaps in some other contexts.

I think India at least shrugged off one of those scares (Babri Masjid)on it's face. I'm very happy about that. However, it's painful that so many ppl died after that.

Dilip, I can understand ur feelings that it doesn't feel good to see a BJP government at the center, but whether you accept it or not, it was during Vajpayee's tanure that India achieved many things.

Dilip,

It is obvious why you didnt liked Shri Vajpayee´s tenure, but what ruffles me is your proclamation of right and wrong....A truly secular government should be essentially anti-hindu and pro-conversion and pro-Rome for you....this aint gonna happen dude....if you feel India is not secular leave it....

There are lot of people in our country. Just compare the 50 years of Congress government with Vajpayee's 5 years of government. You will find the difference. As you are looking for a secular government, please check who has given more quotas to minor communities.
