The Mallu community is too diverse and divided to be a single power-block in the (alleged) manner of 'Allahabad Brahmins' or the Bhadralok. Remarks on the absence of a 'Mallu lobby' show the ignorance of the remarker who probably thinks of Mallu community in monolithic terms.

The semi-laudatory remarks of Sachidanandan and Mukundan PROBABLY apply to the 'midnight generation' of Mallus (to which the new bureaucrats belong); they are almost totally out of context as far as the so-called GenX of Mallus go - to the great majority of the post-liberalization emigrant Mallus, communism, trade-unionism and socialism amount to little more than (embarassing) ideological heirlooms best left behind at the 'tharavaadu'.

Yeah, that wasn't a very enlightening piece. I thought that was funny though. Especially the term "mundu mafia".

'Mundu mafia' is a funny enough phrase. But it was also somewhat sad to see some genuinely gifted writers talking in terms of outdated stereotypes - perhaps their remarks were not originally intended to apply to Mallus across several generations.

ROTFL..

The only response I can think of, to such an unsubstantiated and badly reasoned out article is a hearty laugh.

Thanks for the link though - The humour sure did me some good.
